Mt. Zion Early Learning Center

Our Mission, Goals, and Philosophy

It is the mission of the Mt Zion ELC to provide an alterative to the usual “daycare” by nurturing children with traditional forms of instruction and cultivating their love of learning.  While Mt. Zion ELC intends to provide quality care for students aged 3 – 5 and peace of mind for their parents, we intend to do more than simply give children a place to stay.  We want to impact their lives and shape their future.  Our goal is to train young children to view their life and world from a Christian perspective.  We recognize that young children should have fun and play, but we also recognize that one way children have fun is by learning.  Therefore, Mt Zion ELC emphasizes the content of our curriculum, not just the method of its delivery.  Because of this, the learning relationship between the teacher and the student is critical.  In order to best realize the greatest potential of each student, the Mt Zion ELC has adopted the principles of Classical Education.  Our curriculum is intended to impart critical factual information important for future learning and to guide the children in a progression of skills, all of which are contained in the following areas: language, writing, math, science, music, and art.  In addition to quality education, Mt. Zion ELC is, furthermore, decidedly committed to providing a Christian education from a distinctly Lutheran perspective, and therefore employs the use of the Bible, Luther's Small Catechism and Lutheran hymnody.  Teachers at Mt. Zion ELC are expected to embrace both our teaching philosophy as well as our commitment to religious instruction.
